Dungeon XP is being reworked: quests over endless runs | Azeroth Archive
Dungeon XP is being reworked: quests over endless runs. Experience inside dungeons is being rebalanced in World of Warcraft: Forever . The level 1–60 curve itself is untouched, but the rewards are moving away from resetting an instance over and over and back toward questing out in the world. What is changing Experience from killing ordinary dungeon enemies drops substantially. Experience from dungeon quests rises by a large margin. A first, complete clear of a dungeon is meant to be the most rewarding run. Farming the same dungeon repeatedly should be less efficient than leveling outdoors. The overall 1–60 experience curve stays the same. Principal Designer Kris Zierhut tied the decision to Forever's "the world is the main character" pitch: the team wants players out among each other instead of grinding one pull forever. Groups that only farm a single dungeon are intended to fall behind players who keep questing. Why it matters You are still encouraged to visit each dungeon at least once, ideally with as many of its quests picked up as possible, because that first run is where the big experience and loot now sit. Later visits remain worthwhile for a specific drop or rare item — just not as a pure leveling route. What we still do not know Blizzard has not published the new experience values for dungeon mobs or the exact multiplier for dungeon quests. Those numbers can still move during the beta, which begins on September 17, 2026 .
